Support Arms Package to Taiwan

Dear Congressman:

Please support the $6 billion arms package to the Republic of China. As the oldest republic in East Asia, we have a responsibility to enable it to protect itself from potential aggressive actions by the Chinese Communist Party. Taiwan perennially ranks as one of the top champions of human rights and freedom in the world and as such, deserves our continued commitment.

The ROC government under the Ma Administration has proven to be a responsible partner in peace and security in East Asia. It has rejected the brinkmanship attitude of the Chen Administration. President Ma's modus vivendi demonstrates that he rejects the idea of unilateral action in cross-strait relations, but this does not negate the fact that Taiwan's defences are very outdated and cannot counter an attack by the People's Liberation Army from the Mainland.

It is imperative that the United States fulfils its obligations under the Taiwan Relations Act to supply the armed forces of the Republic of China with weapons of defensive nature, such as Patriot missiles, Black Hawk helicopters, F-16s, and other equipment. The majority of your foreign-born Chinese-American constituents were born and raised in Taiwan. Please actively support the Republic of China and its right to protect itself against aggression from the Chinese Communist Party in order to ensure that our homeland is protected.
